Stumps- Day 1

Bangladesh: 289/10 (Soumya 86, Shakib 59, Southee 5/94)

Bangladesh were holding a strong position after lunch since Soumya and Shakib were batting on beautifully in the middle. Southee and Boult struck then hard to crack the bulwark and suddenly Bangladesh found themselves in trouble losing three wickets in just 14 runs. That 20 minutes in the second session ultimately set the course of the day and Bangladesh got all out on 289 playing 84.3 overs.

Bangladesh will thank the debutants (Nurul and Nazmul) to reach this decent mark as they put a fine partnership of 53 runs together under tremendous pressure. Nurul’s 47 proved his competency and temperament to play in the top level since he held one end firmly to rebuild Bangladesh innings. Kamrul Islam should also get some applauses due to his great knock of 2, as he took 63 balls to score these runs.

Prior to that 20 minutes, Bangladesh innings was adorned with some startling stroke-plays. Soumya utilized the opportunity to apprise his handiness in the team but fell short of 14 runs to score a magnificent hundred. Shakib also showed his willingness to drive any ball remotely close to his driving arc from the beginning. Their 127 runs stand alleviated the early trouble of losing two quick wickets of Tamim and Mahmudullah.

Bangladesh are playing this match with four changes due to injury problem and this is the first time since 2007 that they are playing a test without Mushfiqur Rahim. Rubel Hossain has replaced Subashis Roy for this test match.
