Match Report: Abul five-fer in vain as KHT edge RK in thriller

The Khulna Titans (KHT) have opened their account in AKS BPL T20 2016 with a nail-biting win over the Rajshahi Kings (RK). Batting first, KHT, posted a total of 133/9 and then restricted the opponents to 130.

Set a target of 134, RK were reduced to 3 for 24, Pakistani pacer Junaid Khan sitting on a hat-trick. Their upper order batsmen perishing wickets, it was Mominul who held fort at one end. With the Kings 59/4, skipper Sammy put a 52 runs stand with Mominul to get the score past 100. However, Sammy was bowled by Shafiul on 31 and Mominul followed him in the same over after posting a brilliant knock of 64, reducing his side to 121/6.

The game still seemed to remain in RK’s favor as they required 13 off 12 balls with 4 wickets remaining. Junaid removed Farhad Reza in the 19th over conceding 6 runs. RK then needed 7 runs from the final over with 3 wickets in hand. But the Titans skipper Mahmudullah dismantled their lower order by claiming all three wickets before ensuring 3-runs win for his side.

Earlier in the evening, KT won the toss and elected to bat first. Mehedi Miraz started the hunt for the Kings as he got Nicholas Pooran bowled from his very first T20 over. Abdul Mazid and Riki Wessels tried to get a grip. But it was Abul Hasan Razu who tore through the Titans batting order. The right-arm medium first bowler removed Wessels on 32. The Titans then stumbled on a regular basis. Abul continued to dent in their attack as finished with a figure of 5 for 28, 4th best in BPL. However, Mahmudullah scored 32 to put a tenable total of 133 on the card.
