Match Report: Clinical Kings roll Riders

A dominating Rajshahi Kings side have sealed their 4th consecutive win by defeating the Rangpur Riders by 41 runs and raise themselves to the 4th position of the point table. After a mighty collapse of 43/7, the Kings managed to post a modest total of 128 and then impressively defended it by demolishing the Riders for only 79.

Opting to bat first, the Kings lost their opener Junaid Siddique from the second over who was caught behind off Rubel’s delivery. Arafat Sunny removed Mominul and Samit Patel from his first over (5th of the innings) reducing RK to 27 for 3. The Kings’ nightmare continued as Abul Hasan was gone from Sunny’s immediate over. Umar Akmal and skipper Sammy followed him quickly and then Afridi trapped Sabbir in front for 16. 43/7 on the card, if any RK fan left the gallery, he/she surely missed an incredible 85* runs stand between Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Farhad Reza, 3rd highest ever 8th wicket partnership in the history of T20 cricket. They made it from 64 balls, scoring most of the runs with continuous strike rotations as they dragged the kings to a decent total of 128. Both were not out, Miraz on 41 off 33 with 3 fours, 1 six and Farhad on 44 from 32 with 2 fours, 2 sixes.

In the chase, the Riders openers attempted a decent start with 15 from first 2 overs. However, they couldn’t capitalize on it losing wickets at regular interval. From 3rd to 6th overs, they lose 1 wicket in each getting reducing to 29/4. After his T20 career best batting so far, Miraz gave the breakthrough for the Kings in their defence too. After Shahzad’s dismissal by Mohammad Sami, Miraz came back to claim Nasir Jamshed. It was then Nazmul Islam Apu who broke the backbone of RR middle order as he claimed 3 wickets for only 8 runs off his 4 overs spell. Samit Patel dismissed the key wicket of Mohammad Mithun who was caught behind for 20. Abul Hasan did the rest toring through the RR tail enders  scalping 3 for 11.
