Bangladesh dominate the first day in Mirpur

Bangladesh enjoyed a good start of the second Test against Zimbabwe thanks to centuries from Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim on the first day. Bangladesh ended the day on 303/5 in 90 overs.

Earlier Mahmudullah decided to bat first after winning the toss. Bangladesh made three changes in the playing XI from the first Test. Batsman Mohammad Mithun and Fast Bowler Khaled Ahmed made their Test debut. Mustafizur Rahman also came to the side.

Bangladesh did not have the ideal start as they lost both opener Liton Das and Imrul Kayes for 16 by Jarvis. Debutant Mithun gone for a duck as Tigers were in further trouble on 26 for 3. Since then, Mominul and Mushfiqur batted with determination through the next two sessions and made an record-breaking 266-run stand in the fourth wicket.

Mominul was dismissed after scoring 161 just before end of the days play. Mushfiqur picked up bis 6th century in Test and remained not out on 111. Jarvis struck again to dismiss Night-watchman Taijul Islam on 4. Mahmudullah remained unbeaten without scoring. Jarvis was the most successful bowler for Zimbabwe with 3 wickets for 48.
