Mushfiqur double century puts Bangladesh in command

Bangladesh enjoyed a run-fest on the second day of second Test against Zimbabwe as Mushfiqur Rahim’s double hundred helped the Tigers to post a big total in the first innings. At stumps, Zimbabwe trail by 497 runs with 9 wickets in hand.

Bangladesh started the day with the overnight score of 303 for 5. Two unbeaten batsmen Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah batted the first innings without any trouble. Mahmudullah got out on 36. Next batsman Ariful Haque too dismissed early. But an unbeaten 144-run between Mushfiqur and Mehidy Hasan helped Bangladesh to score past the 500 runs mark and eventually declared on 522 for 7 in 160 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 219 which is now the highest individual score for Bangladesh in Tests. Mushfiqur’s second double hundred also makes him the first wicket-keeper batsman in the history to score two double hundreds in Tests. Mehidy was not out on 68. Jarvis bagged 5 wickets for 71 for the visitors.

Zimbabwe batted for 18 overs to score 25 for 1 before end of the days play. Taijul Islam gave the only breakthrough by dismissing Masakadza for 14.
