Naeem and Farhad denied Prime Bank South Zone of a victory

In an eventful final day of the 4th round of Bangladesh Cricket League, Naeem Islam and Farhad Hossain saved the match for North Zone in BKSP. Another veteran Alok Kapali also made a valiant knock of 71 for East Zone, but his effort went in vain as his team succumbed to a 227 run defeat against Central Zone.

After the mammoth total of 501 of South Zone, North Zone suffered a batting collapse and had to follow on later. Defeat was looming on the horizon for them but they fought back in the second innings superbly. The fight back was initiated by Farhad Hossain and Naeem Islam yesterday. They added 136 runs in the third wicket. Farhad was dismissed after scoring 119 runs.

But Naeem held the crease from one end. After the departure of Farhad and Nasir Hossain in quick succession, he built a steady partnership with Dhiman Ghosh in the sixth wicket. Dhiman did not last long, but the tail-enders were there to give Naeem the support needed to save the match. Eventually, the match was called a draw disheartening Central Zone as they were only two wickets short of victory. Naeem was unbeaten on 129 runs off 243 balls. Off spinner Nahidul Islam was once again instrumental for South Zone. He took 5 wickets each in both of the innings and grabbed a maiden 10 wicket haul. But Tushar Imran was adjudged man of the match for his outstanding double century.

The other match between Central Zone and East Zone in Fatullah ended quite ahead of time. Central Zone declared the innings after scoring 282 for 7. East Zone had to survive the day with all the wickets in hand. But from the beginning, they suffered collapse in batting order, losing quick wickets. At one point, they were 77 for 6. Their defeat seemed quite inevitable. But Alok Kapali stemmed the opposition with a knock of 71 off 114 balls. Although finally this wasn’t nearly enough to rescue his team. With 6 wickets and 73 runs, Mohammad Sharif from Central Zone was adjudged man of the match.
