Nafees and Sabbir shines as practice match ends with a draw

The practice match between BCB XI and England was supposed to be a 2 day test match but after the wastage of first day without playing a single ball due to wet outfield, the two teams agreed to play a one-day match of 45 overs each. However, the practice match had become a thriller as the day went on.

England again won the toss at the morning and decided to bat first. English batsmen took the match to adapt themselves with red ball and to stay on the crease as long as possible. The young sensation Haseeb Hameed spent 100 minutes on the crease and scored 16 out of 56 balls. His opening partner Duckett however played a fine knock of 59 runs and retired himself out to give the opportunity to other batsmen. The surprise bowler of the BCB XI team was Sabbir Rahman, he took all three wickets with his leg-spin. Eventually England scored 137 runs losing 4 wickets.

In reply BCB XI started exceedingly well. Shahriar Nafees played a swift knock of 51 runs and Soumya Sarker played a knock of 33 runs. Most importantly, no English bowler succeeded to take their wickets and they both retired themselves out. Sabbir Rahman, now with bat, led from the front and scored 30 runs. BCB XI was deemed to have win the match after their 44 overs, as they were on 136/4 then. But the umpires called the day off due to bad light and the match was declared drawn.

This match was an acid test for Mosaddek Hossain, since the selectors directly imply a notion to select him for the test squad depending on his performance of today’s match. Unfortunately, he got out only facing 2 balls.

On the same venue, another two days practice match will be held starting tomorrow and BCB XI will be led by Sarker.
