Under the Spotlight: Tamim Iqbal

A left-handed opening batsman and the most successful run scorer for his national side, Tamim Iqbal is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Bangladesh cricket. When aggression and elegance widely characterize an opening batsman, Tamim Iqbal surely qualifies as the first ever Bangladeshi opener to make the world take a notice.

In all three formats, he is currently the highest individual run scorer for Bangladesh and only Bangladeshi cricketer to score a century in every format. Most recently he has become the first ever Bangladeshi to score 5000 ODI runs while he is also the fastest Bangladeshi batsman to get past 1000 T20I runs. His hard-hitting capability has made him a coveted choice for the limited overs franchise leagues. In this year’s PSL, the first ever T20 franchise league of Pakistan, Tamim was the 5th highest run scorer playing only 6 matches. He scored 267 runs for Peshawar Zalmi with 3 fifties and at an average of 66.75 runs per match which was second highest in the tournament.

In BPL, Tamim currently plays for his hometown team Chittagong Vikings and also captains the side. He was the 3rd highest scorer of the last edition with 298 runs to his name playing 9 matches. His recent form in international cricket forebodes another show of scintillating performance.
