Bangladesh suffer batting collapse on rain-affected day

Before another rain interruption at the final session, Kiwis ended the day on 38 for 2 replying Bangladesh's first innings total of 211. Earlier Kane Wiliamson won the toss and opted to bowl first on a green surface at Basin Reserve. Bangladesh made two changes in the Playing XI from the first Test. Mustafizur Rahman and Taijul Islam came into the side replacing Khaled Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Tamim Iqbal and Shadman Islam gave another good start with another fifty-plus opening stand of 75. de Grandhomme broke the partnership by dismissing Shadman on 27. Mominul Haque and Mohammad Mithun also got out before lunch break. Tamim looked good during his 74 runs knock before Neil Wagner got rid of him just after lunch. Apart from Liton Kumar Das's 33, no other batsmen contributed much as Bangladesh were bowled out for 211 in 61 overs. Wagner bagged 4 wickets for 28. Abu Jayed and Ebadat Hossain started brilliantly with some disciplined bowling from both end to put New Zealand openers under pressure. Abu Jayed was the more decisive who removed both Tom Latham and Jeet Raval and reduced the hosts for 8 for 2. Then Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor batted the rest of time to add an unbeaten 30-run partnership before rain stopped the play. Abu Jayed was the most successful bowler fro Bangladesh picking up 2 wickets for 18. The fourth day of play will start from half an hour early at 3:30 am (Bangladesh time) to compensate today’s loss of overs.
